We were in Galveston just one day before boarding Carnival Magic for just one night during a media event to welcome the ship to her year-round home. But one night was plenty for me to say without a doubt that a pre- or post-cruise hotel stay at The San Luis Resort , Spa and Conference Center in Galveston, Texas is a place I want to come back to. Soon.
As a pre- or post-cruise hotel stay option, this one is perfect. Those driving to town for their cruise can park their cars here and the hotel will shuttle them back and forth from the port, no charge. Those flying in can enjoy that same shuttle service to and from the port at no cost and the hotel will make arrangements to pick them up from any of the airports that service the port. Count on that costing along the lines as a ride from Orlando to Port Canaveral. It’s a good hour-long drive easy, sometimes longer, for sure longer if stopping along the way to pick up others. There are a variety of vendors providing the service though and advance reservations are not required.
The hotel itself is fabulous and the location is better, right across the street from the 17-foot seawall that has protected the island from storms for over 100 years.
A 30-acre year-round beachfront hotel and spa resort property on Galveston Island, the AAA Four Diamond Award-winning resort features lavish accommodations, breathtaking Gulf views and personalized service. Great restaurants (wonderful burgers at the pool bar) , luxurious resort amenities and the excitement of historic Galveston Island make this a great place to stay even without a cruise on the front or back end.
Only there for one night, we had not time to try the full-service spa, salon and fitness center or enjoy a refreshing cocktail at their H2o ultra lounge or amid tranquil waters at our swim-up pool bar. The award-winning Steakhouse smelled wonderful and the on-site Rainforest Cafe looked to be a popular choice. When we go back and can linger a while, after a day of basking in the sun and exploring all that the Island has to offer,we can relax and unwind in our Gulf-view guest rooms, which exude luxury and comfort.
We were there for one night and barely had time to scratch the surface of what this resort has to offer. But it did not take an extended stay to see how very hospitable the people who work here are, a quality that almost always makes or breaks a hotel stay. Southern hospitality was flowing freely here.
