Carnival Funship 2.0 transforms old to new on Carnival Liberty

by Chris Owen

We’re on board Carnival Liberty all this week reporting on the implementation of Carnival Cruise Line’s new Funship 2.0 initiative, a $500 million project that promised to transform the line’s onboard experience when it was announced in October.

On Carnival Cruise Lines the Formalities shop was were guests would go to rent a tuxedo for formal night, send flowers to someone on the ship or take care of a number of old-school cruise rituals.  That was a decade or so ago.  Now, via the line’s Funship 2.0 initiative, that space has been revitalized with a new concept right in line with today’s cruise passenger.

Cherry on Top was first introduced on new Carnival Magic earlier this year and was so wildly popular that it was a natural addition to the Funship 2.0 plan that is creating a new onboard experience for guests.

Still located in the prime real estate area of the main atrium area, the space is still the place for guests to visit for all the business they would have taken care of in the Formalities area.  But now, rebranded as Cherry On Top, the bright, friendly space features a variety of horrible things no one needs to have like gourmet cupcakes, chocolate bon bons, bins of candy and other confections not normally found on a cruise ship.

The move is typical of what we are finding this week on board Carnival Liberty where the Funship 2.0 initiative is being first rolled out before being taken fleet wide.
