Funship 2.0 steps up when Mother Nature throws paradise a curve ball

We’re on board Carnival Liberty all this week reporting on the implementation of Carnival Cruise Line’s new Funship 2.0 initiative, a $500 million project that promised to transform the line’s onboard experience when it was announced in October.

Belize is a unique port of call not on a whole lot of cruise line itineraries.  Visiting via cruise ship can provide a good taste of what they have to offer and guide future cruise choices or even a visit by land some day.  But when the lovely tropical weather anticipated turns into a rainy day in paradise, many choose not to leave the ship and stay on board.  Those on Carnival Liberty today found plenty to do, even more than normal, thanks to Carnival’s Funship 2.0 initiative.

When a good number of guests went ashore anyway, many booked on excursions, that left open deck areas fully accessible with room to spare, a real treat for those who don’t care for the crowds that can gather on a day at sea.

Classes at Spa Carnival started at 8am, board games and indoor activities ran throughout the morning to occupy time and a crowd started gathering at Funship 2.0 additions the Blue Iguana Cantina and Guys Burger Joint even before they opened at Noon.   Also popular was the Mongolian Grill where guests select their own ingredients for wok preparation by the ship’s chefs.

Many relaxed along the ship’s Promenade deck, sampling dessert or coffee creations from the Jardin Café but even more simply enjoyed the solitude of their staterooms while room service served their needs at near record pace.

There’s something to be said for staying aboard, relaxing and just enjoying the ship and what it has to offer.  Funship 2.0 additions might not have caused the sun to shine but surely made what might have otherwise been a dreary day a bit brighter.
