Harry’s Steakhouse a nice alternative on Carnival Liberty

by Chris Owen

We’re on board Carnival Liberty all this week reporting on the implementation of Carnival Cruise Line’s new Funship 2.0 initiative, a $500 million project that promised to transform the line’s onboard experience when it was announced in October.

Carnival Cruise Lines focus on value for their guests. The nominal $30 charge for Carnival Liberty’s one specialty restaurant is easy to avoid with an included dining room menu featuring a wide variety of culinary creations that change nightly.  Still, for a quiet dining option in an intimate setting, Harry’s Steakhouse is worth every penny.

Diners won’t have to look too far on the ships main dining menu to find gourmet fare for even the most discerning palates, expertly prepared and served.  Still, the main dining room experience, shared with hundreds of other guests,  can be a bit overwhelming at times and probably not as conducive to a special occasion dinner for a couple or group of friends.

The experience is reminiscent of a Capital Grille or other top-tier steakhouse with multiple selections served in courses. Noteworthy starters include an Ahi Tuna Tartare, Grilled Portobello Mushroom or Lobster Bisque with Vintage Cognac among others.  A familiar steakhouse staple Sliced, Sun-Ripened Beef Steak Tomato adds Gorgonzola Crumbles for variety and a Baby Leaf Spinach and Fresh Mushrooms option are two of the four salads diners can choose.

Entrée selections, as anticipated, include a choice of hefty 18 ounce steaks, one a rib chop and the other a Prime center cut.  Broiled Filet Mignon, New York Strip Loin, Surf and Turf or Broiled Lobster tail, a Rosemary Chicken, Lamb Chops, a Fresh Fish and Lobster Ravioli round out the menu.

Standard steak house side dishes are also served and include a nice baked potato, Sautéed Mushrooms, Creamed Spinach or Steamed Broccoli.   Unique to Harrry’s Steakhouse is a Yukon Gold Mash with Wasabi Horseradish.

Another element of the Harry’s Steakhouse dining experience comes in presentations not found in the main dining room that rival many fine land-based restaurants.
