Marina Bay Sands – Singapore

This weekend in Singapore, the $500 million dollar Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore cruise terminal will start operating this weekend. Capable of accommodating the world’s largest ships,  the opening will allow Singapore to tap Asia’s growing cruise industry while providing thousands of new jobs.

Royal Caribbean‘s Voyager of the Seas will be the first ship to call and will pave the way for the newer generation of larger cruise liners to dock in Singapore and Asia.   Situated at the edge of Singapore’s waterfront downtown district, the ultra-modern terminal is expected to be an ongoing boost to the local economy.

“Singapore’s strategic location coupled with the terminal’s state-of-the-art facilities and proximity to the city and Singapore Changi Airport will anchor the country’s position as Asia’s leading cruise hub,” said Melvin Vu, chief executive of SATS-Creuers Cruise Services.

Create 3,000 jobs and other spin-off benefits, the terminal is expected to host ships from Celebrity Cruises and Costa Cruises as well.
